She did so at UCSD, specialized in OBGYN at USC-Los Angeles County Medical Center, and after completing her residency, added an MPH to her credentials. Let’s learn more about Dr. Schweikert’s path in medicine, and to becoming an Accepted consultant. Suzi, welcome to Admissions Straight Talk! Can you tell us a little bit about how you went from being an English major to being an MD?  [1:20] It’s a bit of a long story. I’ll start with my first year of college, when I got a C- in Chem, and I gave up being a premed. I thought I was done for. The next year, I retook it and got a B-. I didn’t have any doctors or nurses in my family – I really didn’t know what it took. After a couple of years of stumbling around, I transferred to UCLA, and they only had room for me as an English major, so that’s what I became. It was great for me – a break and balance with my science classes. And I realized it gave me a unique expertise – all my premed friends asked me to read their essays. I think reading all those essays helped me learn to write my own. So I think it’s important to major in any subject you enjoy and learn your learning style. Did you need to do a postbac?  [3:05] I continued my undergrad training for a fifth year, so I sort of did a postbac within my undergrad. I think postbacs are great!  A lot of people don’t do great in their first couple of years because they don’t know their learning style, and postbacs can help. How did your learning style have to change to master the sciences?  [4:00] That’s a good question! I had to work hard at test prep. I found I learn best by copying and recopying my lecture notes – in different colors. And I memorized better when I was moving around. It helped me with my MCAT, too. The way to get something deep into your brain is to do something that comes naturally to you. How did you choose OBGYN?  [5:50] I’d thought I wanted to go into family practice. I did a sub-internship in ICU and found I liked critical care situations. Then I did another sub-I in OB, and I withdrew my apps for family med and applied for OB. Sub-internships give you an entirely new perspective on the specialty. And why did you also decide to pursue an MPH?  [7:18] After working in private practice, I missed working with underserved populations. I’d always wanted to serve people who fell through the cracks. Private practice wasn’t fulfilling my personal mission, and studying public health gave me a path back to that original passion. I ended up working in a community clinic, where I still work today. When you were on the UCSD admissions committee and reviewing applications, what surprised you about the students being admitted?  [8:27] I was always surprised by how nice they were. The adcom was looking for people they could imagine caring for their own parent or child – the quality they were looking for was kindness. Kindness is a hard quality to prove, but it shows in how people talk about themselves, and how they treat others on interview day. Even if out of insecurity you’re not acting nicely to people you interact with on interview day (the receptionist, the bus driver, etc) – that reflects badly. And if you’re aloof when meeting other applicants, that can work against you, too. Part of the interview is that they want to see how you act under stress. What mistakes did you see applicants make?  [12:44] Acting overconfident in the application process. If you start talking about things you don’t know much about, they’ll catch on. Show you’re eager to learn. What’s the difference between a residency personal statement and a med school personal statement?  [13:45] The residency personal statement builds on the last four years of med school, but it’s still about what makes you tick. Be honest in your essay – you don’t want to end up in a program that’s a wrong fit for you. There’s a lot of variation in programs – some are very large and expect you to jump in right away, others are smaller with more guidance. When you go on interviews – how happy do the residents seem? Is another difference that the residency personal statement should focus much more on why you’re choosing your specialty, rather than why you want to be a doctor – since you’re already a doctor?  [16:30] You should definitely highlight specific cases that drew you to that specialty. But it’s still about you on a deep level – what makes you tick? Do you have any advice on how to choose a specialty?  [17:15] Do a sub-internship. Talk to residents – ask why they chose it, what they like about it. And a lot of people do a transitional residency year, which gives them more time. What advice do you have for those seeking to go into OBGYN specifically? What traits are critical in this specialty?  [18:05] A lot of people who have trouble choosing between primary care and surgery are attracted to OBGYN since it incorporates both. Because of that, residency directors take your scores and letters of rec very seriously. In terms of traits – you need to love teamwork, and be willing to pitch in when help is needed. You need a high tolerance for sleep deprivation. You need strong communication ability – OBGYNs give patients a lot of information in a short time to help them make big decisions (such as an emergency c-section). I’ve explained genetic testing to patients who didn’t really know what DNA is. You need to be able to communicate clearly. Another trait is humility. OB residencies want people who are ready to learn and willing to learn from their mistakes. How has advising applicants changed your perspective?  [22:15] I remember as an applicant, I felt like I had to come across as perfect. Now I think that on the one hand, you’re trying to package yourself as a great student, and on the other hand, you have to show you’re not perfect and you know it. Medicine requires respect and humility – to earn patients’ trust, you have to show a lot of respect. Perfection is not the key – it’s more self-awareness. Do you have advice for applicants planning to apply in 2019 or later?  [24:00] It’s so helpful to get started early – the best essays take shape over several months. I suggest people start journaling – knowing they won’t use most of what they write, but it helps to get in the habit of self-reflection. You get through a first draft and you think it’s a lot of words without direction, but you may find a sentence of two that ring true – and that’s where your real essay begins, that’s where you find your theme. The real question is not why you want to become a doctor or how badly you want it, it’s whether you’re willing to give so much of yourself to others. And you can show that by giving a lot of yourself in your personal statement. You mentioned journaling. What would I be writing down?  [26:00] You can go through your past – start writing about the experiences you’re thinking about for your application. Write about what you learned, mistakes you made, etc. A lot of what you write you might not use, but it really gets you thinking. What’s your advice for those who are applying right now?  [28:00] Do not waste precious space talking about what other people have done. In secondaries, don’t spend too much time describing the school’s programs. They already know about the wonderful programs they offer. Focus on how and why you’re a great fit. Remember that everything you write in your secondaries is fair game for interviews! What do you wish I would have asked you?  [29:45] Stress reduction is such a hot topic right now. I actually took a stress reduction class when I was in med school, and it was great. It’s one of the most valuable things I’ve learned (and am still learning). Whatever relaxes and recharges you, make time for it. The application process is stressful, but it’s not going to get better. So learn how to deal with it. It’s important for yourself and your patients. When she was eighteen, she moved and left her family behind to receive her religious training and learn English in Rathfarnam, Ireland. Shortly after, she moved to Calcutta, India and began to teach geography at a girlrs high school starting in 1929. Agnes received the name Teresa after her patron, St Therese of the Child Jesus (Parks; Chidiac, 470). After becoming the principle of the school and working at this school for twenty years, she had a call within a call as she says, on a train ride to Darjeeling on September 10th, 1946 that profoundly changed her life forever (Chidiac, 470). In Mother Teresars book called, My Life for the Poor she says on page 7, The message was quite clear: I was to leave the Covent and help the poor whilst living among them. It was an order. I knew where I belonged, but I did not know how to get there. I felt intensely that Jesus wanted me to serve him among the poorest of the poor, the uncared for, the homeless. Jesus invited me to serve him and follow him in actual poverty, to practice a kind of life that would make me similar to the needy in whom he was present, suffered and loved. Just by this quote by Mother Teresa, you can tell she would give up anything to serve god even if she didnt know where it would take her. This call with in a call was god asking Sister Teresa to serve to the most poverty stricken, the dying, the most lonesome, the uneducated and the neediest of all the people in Calcutta, and she didnt hesitate. She immediately applied for freedom from the Loretto Sisters to serve to the needy. In 1948, she was granted permission to work as a free nun, and the Catholic church granted her permission to begin a new religious order, called the Missionaries of Charity (Teresa, 8). She left the convent with only what she was wearing on her back, five rupees, and a rosary. She gave four of the rupees to the poor, and the last one to a priest. The same afternoon, a man had heard about her actions of selflessness and gave the priest fifty rupees to give to her. This goes to show how karma works in miraculous ways. Just imagine leaving home and going to a completely new place with close to nothing. This is what Sister Teresa did. On December 21, 1948, Teresa opened her first slum school in Moti Jheel in Calcutta (Parks). Her goal was to teach the poorest of children how to read, write, but also to teach them basic daily skills like how to bathe. She worked in this school for two years and then the Catholic church gave her permission to start a religious order called the Missionaries of Charity on October 7th, 1950. As she was the head of this mission, Sister Teresa became Mother Teresa and she also got her Indian Citizenship. The goal of the order was to help dying people, poor people, or any one less fortunate have a place to stay or get back on their feet. You could then apply to be a sister in her order by being healthy of mind and body, having the ability to learn, having common sense and a cheerful disposition (Teresa, 16). Once you were a sister, you would go through different vows before committing your life long vows to help unfortunate people. On March 25, 1963, the archbishop of Calcutta formally blessed the new order of the Missionary Brothers of Charity (Parks). Roughly six years later, they got the blessing from Pope Paul VI. The workforce behind the Missionaries of Charity swelled to thousands, usually sisters and brothers of the Catholic Church, helping the worlds poor at 200 centers in over 25 countries. (Stevenson). During this time, the AIDS epidemic was going around India and Mother Teresa took infected children and victims under her wing and took care of them. With Indiars population rapidly growing at this time, there were so many sick people that Mother Teresa and her charity took care of. Mother Teresa then started to open more houses of the Missionaries of Charity first in Venezuela, followed by Rome, Ceylon, Tanzania, and Australia. Her name and her story started to spread and made its way to the U.S. where she opened facilities for people infected with AIDS and another house was made for victims of rape ba ck in India. She enjoyed working in the west because she commented that though the West was materially prosperous, there was often a spiritual poverty. Her health started to decline in the 80rs and she was forced to give up her position in the Missionaries of Charity to another nun. A few days after her eighty seventh birthday in 1997, she passed away from a heart attack. The sisters and brothers of the Missionaries of Charity still go on today to help the needy in memory of Teresa. Since Mother Teresars death, the Missionaries of Charity have added 163 houses in eleven countries on five continents, totaling 757 centers in 134 countries so far (Bose and Faust 111). With the money she received from her Nobel Peace Prize, She asked that the award money be spent to feed Calcuttas poor, as this award honored their lives and the importance of helping them (Stevenson). She started one of her homes for the dying by finding an abandoned Hindu temple and creating a home for them. This goes to show how dedicated she was to helping others. She received the Medal of Freedom, the highest ranked United States civilian award and also received many honorary degrees from universities around the world. Through all her social work, she received many humanitarian prizes and honors. She was awarded the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize and the Joseph Kennedy Jr. Foundation Award in 1971 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 (Parks). All in all, Mother Teresa not only took physical care of these hurting people but showed them love through Jesus. She will always be remembered for her selfless character throughout her whole entire life. She changed the lives of the most disadvantaged people. Through the research about this amazing woman, I can certainly say, myself, and everyone should be more like her. To let go of the materialistic things and to really help someone in need is so important. Living in the U.S., I believe itrs hard to understand the things some of these people go through in less fortunate countries. Granted, with current medicine a lot of people can be healed, but showing love to people in need like Mother Teresa did is what people actually need. I strongly suggest everyone to get involved in their communities to help others. I can say myself that I am a part of Phi Mu at Kennesaw State University and one of my biggest goals through this chapter is to raise money for sick kids at Childrenrs Healthcare of Atlanta. It is very difficult to measure absolute poverty. Various surveys have been conducted in the UK to measure absolute poverty but amongst all the other Seebohm RowntreesBudget Standards surveys is the closest. According to Budget Standards Rowntree has determined a list of certain items which is required to live a healthy life and if the family cannot afford them then it is in poverty. But the definition of Rowntree on absolute poverty faced a lot of criticisms also. The necessity of people living in a different culture are different and as the standard of living of the people of the society increases the standard of poverty also raises. Peter Townsend says that a person is in poverty when he lacks resources and is not able to maintain the standards of living that are acceptable to the society. He created Deprivation Index which is a list of 12 items and if the family cannot afford 3 or more items from the list then it is in poverty. Sociological measures of poverty To reduce poverty among the society welfare programmes like Child benefit, free medical services to the poor and changes in the tax laws in favour of the poor should be started. The government should spend a major amount to provide education to the people of the society. The Iceman Cometh Denial in The Iceman Cometh Denial is the refusal to admit the truth. It is the refusal to accept or acknowledge the reality or validity of a thing or idea. Many characters in The Iceman Cometh suffer from denial and false hope. O'Neill places these characters in the appropriate setting in which they are able to fantasize about their dreams. Amidst the drunken and misguided characters, O'Neill presents a few that the reader builds hope and sympathy for. Each character uses a pipe dream in order to be able to become blind to their downfalls and to reality. In the bar setting, characters in Eugene O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh portray the theme of denial by embracing pipe dreams. Harry Hope is the elderly owner of a saloon and rooming house. The narrow five-story structure presents the ideal setting for self-destruction. The characters come here in order to drink away their problems (O'Neill 597). All of the characters in the novel come to Harry Hope's bar as an escape. They manage somehow to remain drunk and delude themselves(Gagey 332), with a few harmless pipe dreams about their yesterdays and tomorrows (O'Neill 620). They feel sheltered and protected from the real world while in the bar. They do not have to face reality here. The dreamers have come to Hope's because, ostensibly, they are failures in the outside world. What lies outside is a world without value, a hostile society to which no man can possibly belong, and from which they must take refuge (Bogard 54). The characters deny the fact that there is a real world out there, in where they may succeed. They are much more content taking refuge in the bar, where they do not have to strive for or work at anything. They can just wallow in their sorrows and drink them all away. Each character has a separate pipe dream to face. The pipe dream allows the character to live in a state of denial. It is a false belief or a false hope that the character holds on to. This is Lessard 2 in order to blind them of reality. By embracing a pipe dream, the characters feel they do not have to face the bitter reality that confronts them. The pipe dreams make life tolerable for the time being (55). Rocky, the bartender at Hope's bar, denies the fact that he is a pimp. Because he is a bartender, he believes he cannot be a pimp. He blatantly disregards the fact that he takes money from two prostitutes and protects them as well. He says to one of the prostitutes, 'What would you do if I wasn't around? Give it all to some pimp' (O'Neill 603). The sad fact that O'Neill presents is that Rocky truly believes that he is not a pimp. He has fooled nobody but himself, and doesn't even realize it. He also holds a pipe dream of being able to open a bar of his own someday. Margie and Pearl, the two prostitutes, have pipe dreams of one day getting married. They are also living in a state of denial. Margie says, 'Anyway, we wouldn't keep no pimp, like we was reg'lar old whores. We ain't da t bad' (603). These characters live their life through blind eyes (Orr 90). They refuse to see who and what they really are (91). These three characters deny who they are and refuse to accept it. Although they all have good qualities, they do not acknowledge their imperfections and overlook their unhealthy lifestyles. Ed Mosher, Harry Hope's brother-in-law, was once a circus man. Pat McGloin was once a police officer. Piet Wetjoen was once the leader of a Boer commando. Cecil Lewis was once the Captain of the British infantry. James Cameron was a Boer War correspondent. Willie Oban is a Harvard Law School alumnus. Joe Mott was once the proprietor for a Negro gambling house. Although these characters seem to be permanent fixations at Harry Hope's bar, they refuse to acknowledge that fact. They all retain the pipe dream of shortly returning to their previous jobs. Joe Mott says, 'I'll make my stake and get a new gamblin' house open before you boys leave' (O'Neill 600). All

An Analysis of Mark Slouka's Argument on the Lack of Humanities in American Education In â€Å"Dehumanized: When Math and Science Rule the School†, Mark Slouka addresses the lack of humanities in American education curriculum, in contrast to the overwhelming focus on math and science. For the educational system, this translates as an imbalanced approach to teaching students how to think creatively and authentically. â€Å"†¦the problem today is disequilibrium. Why is every Crisis in American Education cast as an economic threat and never a civic one?† (37) While Slouka certainly uses many rhetorical techniques throughout his article to criticize the focus on math and science in American education, this might be the most striking one. Why an education recovery automatically equals to an economy recovery? Why doesn’t the public see a progress in education as a progress in the student’s ability to think more creatively or to analyze problems more critically? Slouka suggests that we pay less attention on educational crisis as a ‘civic threat’ because: â€Å"we don’t have the language for it. Our focus is on the usual economic indicators. There are no corresponding â€Å"civic indicators,† no generally agreed-upon warning signs of political vulnerability, even though the inability of more than two thirds of our college graduates to read a text and draw rational inferences could be seen as the political equivalent of runaway inflation or soaring unemployment.† (37) As Slouka stated, economic crises are quantifiable, while civic crises are usually not and therefore, there is an underwhelming focus on humanities in the education system. By ‘civic indicators’, Slouka refers to the signs that help pointing out troubling issues that could impose disastrous consequences on the human values of the citizens in the country. In Slouka’s sense, civic indicators could also refer to the degree of democracy in the economy. Slouka argues that â€Å"Political freedom, whatever the market evangelists may tell us, is not an automatic by-product of a growing economy† (36) Through this claim, Slouka is trying to convey to us that a developed economy does not automatically result in high level of political liberation. Thus, in order to solve this issue, the politicians should place more importance on humanities in education and let the ‘human’ aspects of the students grow along with their quantitative skills that could potentially drive economic output. Humanities can help us achieve this middle-ground and enhance as well as liberate the student’s political standpoint because humanities, unlike math and science, teach us â€Å"not what to do but how to be.† (37) But aren’t there not enough warning signs of civic crisis out there, not enough to motivate the politicians and the governmental board of education to start gearing the country’s education system towards humanities? Several times in Dehumanized, Slouka points out concerning issues due to the lack of humanities in schools. He mentions Brent Staples, from New York Times, who claims that â€Å"the American education system is failing â€Å"to produce the fluent writers required by the new economy.† (34) The Education Commission of the States published a report saying that â€Å"state and local leaders are realizing that the arts and culture are vital to economic development† and several states have even â€Å"developed initiatives that address the connections between economic growth and the arts and the culture†. (36) Moreover, the embarrassingly low voter turnout in the recent years can also serve as a strong ‘civic indicator’ of the diminishing knowledge or focus the younger generations placed on the policies and programs that are adopted by the government. Too many members of society are ignorant to the significance of their involvement in the political arena. The lack of knowledge stems from the lack of information received in the educational process. It is in the area of the humanities that the individual gains an appreciation and understanding for their role as a citizen in a democracy. Even with all these reasons, the politicians still decided to turn a blind-eye on the importance of the humanities and continued on their quest to produce economically-beneficial worker-bees. American politicians are obsessed with maintaining America’s position as the world economic leader. Thus, they would not stop pushing the education curriculum towards math and science, because they are the subjects that have the most obvious potential in growing the economy. â€Å"Ah, Singapore. You’ll hear a good deal about Singapore if you listen to the chorus of concern over American education. If only we could be more like Singapore. If only our education system could be as efficient as Singapore’s.† (35) Slouka is annoyed by America’s unreasonable attitude in comparing its own education system to that of Singapore. Singapore’s education system is well-known for its heavy focus on math and science, in which Slouka views as â€Å"obsessive, exclusionary, altogether unhealthy.† (38) He uses a slightly mocking tone in the quoted paragraph above to imply that American should be focusing on improving its own in what he believes, broken – education system instead of trying to get ahead of the others. Slouka is convinced that the reason that the American education system overlooks the crucial role of humanities in developing the nation is not because of the shortage of civic indicators. However, even with plenty civic indicators, politicians are still much more attracted to quantifiable measures and the false pride that comes with America triumphing over another country’s economy. One would hope that the appreciation of the humanities and the corresponding civic indicators becomes a reality for more people. â€Å"The humanities, in short, are a superb delivery mechanism for what we might call democratic values. There is no better than I am aware of.† (37) Slouka believes that those who can grasp the concept and comprehend the condition of the nation by paying attention to the civic indicators and the humanities are people who are beginning to realize and truly understand the world around them. If American people are to ever fulfill their dreams of a true democracy, then it is imperative to break away from the hypnotic grip this capitalist system has upon us.

The United States would gain control of the Philippines, far from its own shore, and attempt to remake the Spanish colonialism political system in its own image. The result would be a bloody conflict fought with Filipino insurgents that would take America many years to quell. Following the American victory over Spain and the taking of the Philippines, there was a great deal of tension between the U.S. and the locals. This came to a head in 1899 when American soldiers shot some Filipinos. Things quickly got out of hand with both sides raising armies and fighting conventional wars. The Americans rapidly defeated the convention Filipino forces, killing two of their best generals and pacifying many of the urban areas. But as the Filipinos fell back, they regrouped as guerrillas and had huge local support.

William Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar, is mainly based on the assassination of Julius Caesar. The various men who happened to object to his assassination had different personal desires for their actions. Depending on each of their actions, words or even tone of voice they may misrepresent them and may be misinterpreted. Brutus, Cassius, and Antony had motives for their actions. I will explain what each of them stood to gain from the death of Caesar. Brutus, servant and close friend to Caesar, has a strong relationship with Caesar but a stronger relationship with Rome and it people. Brutus was a very noble man. He tries to justify the death of Caesar but he can not get the thought of cold-blooded murder out of his mind. One of the reasons Brutus would conspire against Caesar is that he loved the Roman people more than Caesar. Brutus was the head of the conspiracy because the Romans respected his judgement and loyalty to the Roman Empire. If he would have loved Caesar more than Rome's people he never would have killed Caesar for the Roman people. Cassius is the most significant character for his ability to perceive the true motives of the characters. Cassius thinks the nobility of Rome is responsible for the government of Rome. Cassius strongly dislikes Caesar personally. He sees Brutus as the person that will unite the nobles in the conspiracy. Cassius tries to use Brutus to achieve his goal. His main goal is to remove Caesar from power by using his persuasive speaking. Antony first appears in the play as a devoted follower of Caesar. He is also one of the great triumvirs. When he gains permission to speak at Caesar's funeral he undermines the public confidence to seize the power of Rome. In his speech at the capitol he concentrates on Brutus and appeals to the emotions of the people of Rome. At the end of the play, he publicly glorifies Brutus in order to heal the public's wounds caused by the loss of Brutus, Cassius, and Caesar.

Advocacy Campaign for Child Welfare

CHAPTER ONE SITUATION ANALYIS To be able to come up with a good child welfare advocacy, the group assessed the external and internal situation. This chapter evaluates the situations and trends in a particular advocacy. It provides the information needed for planning. Background of Child Welfare Child welfare is a government- run service for protecting children and young people who are underage which are still vulnerable to abuses like commercial sexual exploitation, trafficking, child labor, and harmful traditional practice.It is estimated that in our country, about 100,000 children die each year from preventable diseases, more than 2 million school age children are not studying, there were also upwards of 2 million working children and that street children number about 200,000 in 57 cities. UNICEF figures out the number of sexually prostituted children at around 60,000. There are many organizations here in the Philippines that promote child welfare that has one common goal which is to help many children, especially children who are homeless and had been abandoned by their love ones.According to Presidential Decree No. 663 dated December 10, 1974 regarding the Child and Youth Welfare Code Art. 3. Right of the Child clearly states that: All children shall be entitled to the rights herein set forth without distinction as to legitimacy or illegitimacy, sex, social status, religion, political, antecedents, and other factors. (1) Every child is endowed with the dignity and worth of a human being from the moment of his conception, as generally accepted in medical parlance, and has, therefore, the right to be born well. 2) Every child has the right to a wholesome family life that will provide him with love, care and understanding, guidance and counseling, and moral and material security. The dependent or abandoned child shall be provided with the nearest substitute for a home. (3) Every child has the right to a well-rounded development of his personality to the end th at he may become a happy, useful and active member of society. The gifted child shall be given opportunity and encouragement to develop his special talents.The emotionally disturbed or socially maladjusted child shall be treated with sympathy and understanding, and shall be entitled to treatment and competent care. The physically or mentally handicapped child shall be given the treatment, education and care required by his particular condition. (4) Every child has the right to a balanced diet, adequate clothing, sufficient shelter, proper medical attention, and all the basic physical requirements of a healthy and vigorous life. 5) Every child has the right to be brought up in an atmosphere of morality and rectitude for the enrichment and the strengthening of his character. (6) Every child has the right to an education commensurate with his abilities and to the development of his skills for the improvement of his capacity for service to himself and to his fellowmen. (7) Every child h as the right to full opportunities for safe and wholesome recreation and activities, individual as well as social, for the wholesome use of his leisure hours. 8) Every child has the right to protection against exploitation, improper influences,   hazards, and other conditions or circumstances prejudicial to his physical, mental, emotional, social and moral development. (9) Every child has the right to live in a community and a society that can offer him an environment free from pernicious influences and conducive to the promotion of his health and the cultivation of his desirable traits and attributes. (10) Every child has the right to the care, assistance, and protection of the State, particularly when his parents or guardians fail or are unable to rovide him with his fundamental needs for growth, development, and improvement. (11) Every child has the right to an efficient and honest government that will deepen his faith in democracy and inspire him with the morality of the const ituted authorities both in their public and private lives. (12) Every child has the right to grow up as a free individual, in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, tolerance, and universal brotherhood, and with the determination to contribute his share in the building of a better world.The Helping Juans group would like to market our advocacy and also to contribute in giving awareness to everyone about child welfare especially the parents simply because we would like to educate them regarding concerns about the welfare of each and every one’s children, meaning, we love our children and they should be provided with all the support, either physically, financially, emotionally, spiritually, and morally.Every child has their own rights and every one of them need to be treated in a right way. But the child welfare in the Philippines is not given that much attention because the kind of governance we have now is corrupt and cannot be dependable all the times because of countless pr oblems that our country is facing and it is sad to say that number of street children are increasing.But if our government will just make up for all their mistakes and give more attention to our real problems especially the lack of funds on every department including DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development), it would be a great relief to everybody especially those children who are in an orphan who had been abandoned and just relying to their orphanage. CHAPTER TWO ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN Christmas for Little Juans is an advocacy campaign introduced by Helping Juans, a group composed of nine members from MA101.We made this group for us to help abandoned children even with just simple things, like feeding them, giving them gifts and showing them love especially to this kind of season. These children are often working in very difficult circumstances without enough food to eat and decent place to sleep. The street is their only home. Our advocacy campaign is to raise awareness abou t these children. We want them to be recognized and at the same time to be cared and sheltered. It is our organization's ultimate goal in raising awareness about these kids and also in gathering support for the welfare and benefit of street children in Manila.We are volunteer based and believe that the money our donors give should be used wisely and efficiently as possible. The target participants for our advocacy campaign were the Asia Pacific College community particularly the students of APC. But that doesn’t mean that the campaign is limited only to these people, but instead, they are just mainly the market. APCians, together with the faculty and staff, were encouraged to join to help the group gain funds for their advocacy campaign and help their beneficiary foundation.These participants didn’t regret helping the campaign but instead touched their hearts and realized how important helping the needy people is. The group did not just help others but also helped them selves because by helping other people to the best of their ability, they automatically helped themselves. Helping Juans believed that it is their group’s as well as the entire mankind's obligation to make sure these kids get proper place to live, proper education and proper treatment, so that they can appreciate their lives and look towards the brighter side and maybe, someday they can also make an impact in this world.CHAPTER THREE PARTNER ORGANIZATION The My Father’s House (MFH) is a licensed, nonprofit child caring organization serving the abandoned, neglected and orphaned children. This organization aims to introduce each child to Jesus Christ with the hope that they come to know Him as Lord and Saviour of their lives through the promotion of discipline and obedience under God’s love and principle, provide programs and services to develop self sufficiency and independency, place children in loving stable Christian homes for their protection and security, an d implement holistic programs that will empower children and youth.The organization has a total of 64 students, 10 of which are youth scholar under the Independent Living Program. Others were declared abandoned and voluntarily surrendered by parents. They train these children to observe respect and politeness on their behavior and it is observed that the children have become more accepting of one another and of the authority that the adults have over them. They also implement behavior modification strategies so they would become more open to caregivers and social workers. Children are being adopted by Filipino, American, Spanish and Finnish families.They are open to people who are willing to help and give hands to the children. They prefer clothes, school supplies and food for the children. MFH is located at 135 Ramona Tirona corner Sison St. , BF East Phasi VI, Las Pinas, their location is inside the subdivision and it has a high security which they can have the assurance of the ch ildren's safety. They have places for children to sleep, eat, study and play. They have 3 bed rooms, one room for girls, one room for boys from 5-12 and another for teenagers.They have a kitchen which serves good food and they eat as a family. They have a separate building for studying and well trained teachers for them. They have court, play ground and a pool for the children to enjoy. MFH has several partners like Benny Hinn Ministries and Partners, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Inter-Country Adoption Board (ICAB), Association of Child-Caring Agencies in the Philippines (ACCAP), KRAFT Philippines, and Wide Horizons for Children, etc. CHAPTER FOUR OBJECTIVES General Objectives: To be able to raise child welfare awareness in the Asia Pacific College community effectively * To inculcate to the minds of the people the essence of child welfare * To build up empathy for these children * To let the orphans experience God’s loving touch by sharing food, gifts and clothing * To share love and care during the Christmas season CHAPTER FIVE INTEGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIES The group planned to promote â€Å"Christmas for Little Juans† through print ads and through the use of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.It was found to be more effective as the target market of this advocacy campaign, the Asia Pacific College community is usually inclined with these media, so the relay of the message of â€Å"Christmas for Little Juans† is effective and efficient. A. Viral Marketing Viral Marketing was executed through the use of Facebook. The group has created a fanpage, â€Å"Christmas for Little Juans,† so that they will be able to disseminate announcements and updates easily. Aside from that, it also helped them also be easy to get feedbacks from its participants. B. AdvertisingPrint advertisements were produced so that it will be posted in the bulletin boards. By doing this so, the APC community was able to be aware of that the group campaigns for. C. Public Relation The group built a good relation with their sponsor companies and because of this, these companies helped them fund the advocacy. In addition, they have also talked and discussed to some professors their advocacy campaign. In return, some professors allowed their students to attend the activities the group has prepared. D. Selling The group sold ballers to introduce the campaign to their target market.These items were sold through the micro blogging sites, Facebook and Twitter to minimize costs since selling these items in the cafeteria costs a lot because the group must pay additional expenditure for occupying a space in the caf. On the other hand, they also held a film showing at room 415. * Ballers The group saw the trend of wearing ballers in school so they have thought of selling this item for a cause. In a baller is a statement that says, â€Å"I support Child Welfare. † It was a good way of introd ucing the campaign since it spoke for what the group campaigns for.The group was able to get it for P35 each and was also able to sell it for P60, making a profit of P25 per baller. * Sponsorships The group sent letters of sponsorships to fund other activities. * Film Showing The group rented Room 415 for film showing. A person will be charged P50 for a movie as an entrance fee. But then, he/she will enjoy free unlimited snacks while watching. b. Culminating Activity * The group wanted to have a culminating activity that will not only benefit the foundation but also give their audience something in return.They’ve came up hand stamps for their culminating activity. APCians were gathered at the cafeteria to post their hand paints on a long cloth. A registration fee of P20 is charged. They got a free button pin that says, â€Å"I SUPPORT CHILD WELFARE. † It’s not only the button pins that they got, but also the extraordinary feeling of supporting a campaign. CHAPTE R SIX TIME TABLE CHAPTER SEVEN EVALUATION A. Audience Response a) Advocacy Our advocacy campaign was to inform not only students and professors but everyone to be aware of today’s children welfare.Nowadays, almost everybody is aware of the poverty of our country is experiencing and one major problem is the lack support of the society to the children on the streets. Our Advocacy targets to influence everyone to be aware of what is going on to these children. Implementing our campaign, we expound the knowledge of our audience of what our advocacy really means and how they could help. The audience responded in a manner that we did not expect. They have been aware of today’s children in our society and as part of their response, knowing that this could help the welfare; they did not hesitate to support every event we shared.They let our campaign sink in not only in their minds but also with their heart to show their care for these children. No doubt that our campaign achie ved not only its proposed objectives but we also hit the hearts of every audience who cares for the children. b) Culminating Activity The title of our culminating activity is â€Å"High-Five For A Cause†. People wondered what we meant by that, even the audio visual presentation is not enough for them. Due to our creative way of dragging their attention, they started to get curious on our booth—so they went to our area and checked things out.As we explained things to them, we received different types of expression; for some it is just a waste of time and money, but for others they appreciated our concern to the orphan. Now, P20 is not much of a pain in the pocket that is why all we have to do is invite them without too much effort. In addition to this, once they already put their handpaint on the wall they received a button pin meaning that they supported our campaign. Because of this, registration fee was actually a good deal for those who participated. Most of the rea ctions we got are either a ready to participate gesture or eager to get out of that place.As we execute our activity, we observed that people who have seen our campaign is just a waste of money and time for some, like what we have mentioned before. Moreover, some think that putting paint in their hands is a hassle on their part, thinking maybe the paint we use is hard to get rid off. However, for those who were interested, we observed that as they put their handpaintings on the wall it is more likely a fun thing to do for them knowing that something was unique and it was for a cause. B. Budget Utilization Disbursement of Funds for Christmas Party Funds from SponsorshipsFunds from Fund Raising Activities CHAPTER NINE RECOMMENDATIONS For our fund raising Film Showing we could have prepared more chips and more movies to watch. First, the information was not disseminated properly. It was two days before the showing when the group has announced the activity. So that’s why, the gro up didn’t reach their target number of viewers, and that, the participants were so little. They should have posted the print ads ahead of time so that participants were able to be aware of it. There had been a technical problem with the movie—it was skipping a scene so they had to change the movie.But good thing, the audience still liked the movie and still watched it till the end. The group could have chosen a bigger space like the auditorium but unfortunately they could not afford it. So we decided to hold our event in room 415 which was convenient to other students who have classes so they can easily go to our event after their class. But the group was happy that there are more people who participated and enjoyed their event. Lastly, the film showing could have been a success if the time was extended. Most of the people who bought tickets have classes from 12:45-2:30.It could have been better if the group extended the film up to 5pm. The advocacy campaign, â€Å"Hi -Five for a Cause. † which was held at the APC cafeteria was a success. You could see that every student who would pass by the booth would notice and  support the culminating activity. Although, we recommend that the culminating activity should have been widely spread and advertised more so that more people would be able to support. The event lacked noises to advertise the activity. The group could have put up big advertisements like posters and give away fliers earlier.Some of the supporters were not really aware on what they are doing and some of the group members can't explain them thoroughly because of more people coming to their booth but Helping Juans gave them fliers which tell what the advocacy campaign all about. But overall, the culminating activity that we organized was a success for us. Mcdonalds Edwardsville, Il Location - 1370 Words

The purpose of this summary is to show what was researched after completing and analyzing the results from the McDonalds Edwardsville, Il location. Most of the results showed satisfaction in our store. However, one of the five surveys taken showed a dissatisfaction in the location. This may seem alarming, being only that this individual showed dissatisfaction can mean they may not think highly of McDonald’s in the first place. Others relatively showed the same satisfaction towards the quality of service and entrà ©es. Three out of the five individuals showed they would visit the location again. This may show they are regulars and they would still continue to come to this location, or they were completely satisfied to return again. For the two other dissatisfied customers will be an area of focus on improving this location. We will look into this as in cleanliness of the store, employee presence and helpfulness to customers. One individual who decided not to provide a nymore information could have been a visiting customer who we can take into consideration. We may see regulars as not noticing the flaws in the location because they are constantly coming in and ignoring details. We also noticed cleanliness was all relatively the same through all individuals. Analyzing the results, cleanliness and customer satisfaction will be our main focus on improvements.
